10 Day Reset
As some of you may know, I did a 10 day reset that ended a few days ago. I’m here to tell you a little bit about my journey and how I felt before, during, and after. It was an adventure. Some parts were hard, other parts were easy. Read on to learn more about how it all went!
I’m not going to share EVERYTHING that I ate because 10 days of that would be A LOT. But here are a list of things I totally cut out and things I kept in.
Things I completely cut out of my diet: Sugar, wheat, grains, corn, soy, dairy (minus ghee), legumes, anything processed, fried or having refined oils. Basically, I stayed to the outside isles of the supermarket and never bought anything in a box, bag or can.
Things I ate: Grass-fed and pasture raised meat, pasture raised eggs, wild caught fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, nut butters, and yes I still used ghee and manuka honey because I was sick.
I was planning to cut out all sugar (including honey) but I was unfortunately cursed with an upper respiratory infection the day before my reset and NEEDED the healing powers of manuka honey. Because I was sick, the reset didn’t go exactly as planned. I wanted to create fun recipes and try new things to make this reset really exciting. Instead I ended up making a lot of soup with bone broth and veggies.
I meditated daily. I journaled after my meditation and while my plan was to exercise everyday, I ended up exercising about 5 days because in the moment, rest was most important and you have to listen to your body when it’s telling you to slow down. I stopped using blue light before bed, which is hard for me. I love my TV before bed, and I wasn’t exactly falling asleep easily because I couldn’t breathe. But I did it!
I think it’s important to note that I didn’t do this to lose weight. I did this because my body needed nutrients. I was in Florida for 2 weeks with family followed by a wedding weekend and was going out to eat often, drinking often, and just not taking care of myself like I usually do. It didn’t feel good. By the end of the trip I felt bloated, completely drained or energy, and sick. I don’t like having these feelings so I thought I should do something about it. The day I got home, the reset began.
Let it be heard…. SUGAR IS AN ADDICTION. There have been studies showing that mice were more easily weened off of cocaine than sugar. If you’re eating sugar everyday (and I was, especially with the alcohol) your body is going to tell you every day that you NEED it. Days 1-4 were the hardest to let go of sugar. I craved it every night. I tried to satisfy my sweet tooth with toasted bananas and almond butter. It helped, but I wanted real sugar. After day 4, it got a whole lot easier. The cravings stopped. Almost completely. I didn’t feel like I needed anything after dinner. It was really wonderful. I still haven’t even added refined sugar back into my diet and I’m telling you, it makes a difference in the way I feel.
Heres a little insight to what I ate:
Breakfast: Herbal tea with 1tsp of manuka honey, pasture raised scrambled eggs with onion, mushroom, and avocado
Lunch: Smoothie - banana, blueberries, almond butter, spirulina, spinach, flax seeds, coconut water
Snacks: Melon and Olives
Dinner: Chuck pot roast made with grass fed & finished beef, onions, carrots, beef bone broth and lots of healing spices
Every meal had healthy fats (avocado, nuts, grass-fed meat, flax) protein (eggs, nut butter, meat) and carbs (VEGGIES - yes veggies are carbs). Having fats, protein, and carbs kept me full throughout the day. I was eating less, feeling more full, and my stomach was not bloated. I will say my energy was still pretty low but I was battling a horrible upper respiratory infection that ended up taking over two weeks to pass.
So, I will admit that doing a “reset” while sick wasn’t my greatest idea, but even so, I ended up feeling better. I want to try this again, only this time when I’m not sick and have the time to come up with more fun recipes. I want to add in longer meditations, continue journaling, exercise daily, and find a nighttime routine that quiets my mind.
Stay tuned for ROUND 2!
